I can completely relate to this as my first kiss was also onstage! (Oklahoma…good times) Follow the “its not awkward unless you make it awkward,” mantra, take a breath and just go for it. Follow any special instruction your director gives you and think of the kiss as just another blocking movement–like a handshake.

Hahah my director used to cast me in pant roles all the time. Clearly he/she has typed you. Work it and audition for other people to get a more versatile experience.

mmmmmmmmmm. First off, good choices given the show you are going for. I really wish I could hear you sing these because my advice is to always chose a) what is more rehearsed b) what sounds stronger in your voice.
That being said, I think “I Know Things Now” is a more dynamic song. "Happily Ever After" is pretty talk-y if I remember.
Break legs! xoxoxox
To the person who asked me about singing “on my own” for her audition
Sorry I think I accidentally deleted your post! (spaz) Here is my response to your question.
I have used this song before! I’m going to give you the same advice my voice teacher gave to me which is to make it original. Take a break from listening to recordings (and there are so many good ones) and really feel the words as you sing them. Maybe even try speaking through the song a few times. Best of luck - break all of the legs!

That is absolutely not a stupid question. Time to get hella resilient! (Seriously, it is one of the best life skills theatre has given me). Personally, I have always felt like if you aren’t failing in some capacity, you are not pushing yourself hard enough as an artist. AND DEFEAT MAKES YOU BETTER. So embrace it, because this is not the last time you’ll be faced with this. Also, feeling as deserving or qualified as the people who end up succeeding makes any defeat worse - so I’m empathizing.
Here’s my method to coping: Cry a little (or a lot). Go for a run. Dance party.

Hey there! Woah sorry I am ridiculously terrible at responding. I don’t know if you already auditioned but my number one tip (as a director and actress) is always make a clear, firm, choice and commit to it! Break all of the legs in your show!

Hi! I am so sorry I didn’t see this earlier. So http://www.stageagent.com/Shows/Songs/ has a pretty great system for picking audition songs. Some of my go-to choices include “Funny Honey” from Chicago and “If I Were a Bell” from Guys and Dolls. I love performing these because both lend themselves to strong character choices. The Chicago number starts out sweet but you can get totally enraged by the end of it - such a fun arc for an audition. Best of luck and break all of the legs!
